Summer has certainly come here in Florida. The days are hot and the rain is frequent!
I was pleased with how many things I managed to get done this month, although I feel like I haven't had much time to work on my own crochet projects. But that's okay, because the things I am working on are very exciting!
I had posted last month about my crochet basics course. The first sessions have gone great, and I am excited to be able to offer these classes repeatedly over the course of the rest of the year! Along with that have come my first official crochet patterns, one of which is published in my shop right now!
The Clement Scarf is a customizable pattern with a simple repeat. If you want to have a more lacey scarf, like the one pictured, you can use the optional lace pattern the entire way. Otherwise, exchange the lace and solid fabric in whatever way you'd like!
Of course, if you have any questions or need clarifications on this pattern, I am always happy to help! Just email me at info@rovingwren.art!
I am beginning to plan my intermediate courses out through the end of the year as well. I am planning to have two intermediate classes per month, one on the 2nd Saturday and one on the 4th Saturday. These will be starting in August, to give me a little time to prepare! Here is the tentative schedule so far:
August 10 | How to Read Crochet Patterns |
August 24 | How to Make a Granny Square Stitch (in the Round and in Rows) |
September 14 | Granny Square Hexagon Cardigan (pt 1) |
September 28 | Granny Square Hexagon Cardigan (pt 2) |
October 12 | Make your own Halloween Costume (pt 1) - More details coming! |
October 26 | Make your own Halloween Costume (pt 2) - More details coming! |
November 9 | Crochet Project Finishing Techniques |
November 23 | How to Read Crochet Patterns (a repeat of August 10's class) |
December 14 | Beading with Crochet (pt 1) |
December 28 | Beading with Crochet (pt 2) |
I am so excited about these, and I cannot wait to get started making the class samples! I will be posting more information as these dates get closer.
In Other Life News
This month, I am firmly invested in Alan Moore's Jerusalem. WOW, what an intense and incredible piece of prose. It is a 60h audio book, and I am still have 48h left to go, but I have loved every minute. The cadence of the book had me grasping for something to hold onto for the first couple of chapters, but there is a huge payoff for noticing the small details as the book continues. Just... I highly recommend it. It has been so good.
A friend of mine also recommended Jennette McCurdy's I'm Glad My Mom Died. In talking with her about it, it sounds like the themes may be a bit triggering for me, which makes me want to read it more. I find as I get older, I want learn whatever I can from being uncomfortable emotionally. There are still unhealed wounds from my divorce, even though it was almost five years ago, and I want to be the best version of me I can be for the people in my life now.
In the games realm, I have picked up Spiritfarer for the cozy vibes. It makes me really want to crochet Stella's hat! But that would be so much yarn!!

I also bought Haven while it was on sale and I plan to play it with my boyfriend when we both have a little time. But the game I have been craving to return to is actually Transistor! I watched the Noclip documentary on it and remembered the fondness I have for that game. When it goes on sale for Nintendo Switch, I will be picking it up!
When I have a bit more free time, I will be working on some of my current WIPs that I have abandoned. I want to say that I won't start any new projects until some of them are done, but who am I kidding really? Haha!
Til next time!
