Every year, the second weekend of October is the home of many celebrations here in Florida. It makes sense, as this is usually the first break we get from our typical 90+ degree days as cooler air blows in from the south.

I'm sure the shift from summer to fall is also what inspires the Craft Yarn Council to celebrate the love of yarn this weekend every year as well! Up north, this time of year signals the change from flowy, breathable fabrics to dense, warm wool. I can't say that I relate, seeing as we have perhaps 2 or 3 days a year below 40 degrees, but the departure from the heat is still welcome!

Our craft is very much borne from a rich history of weaving fabrics into clothes that helped our ancestors stave off the cold. It is incredible to think of the pure pragmatism of that goal, when compared to the hundreds of thousands of patterns we have designed to bring fashion and survival together. Yarn spinners and dyers have endeavored to find the softest fibers and create the most incredible color combinations so that knitters, crocheters, and weavers can transform those strands into gorgeous works of art.

Today, I am glad to reflect on the joy that yarn has brought into my life. When I picked up this hobby nearly 10 years ago, I had no idea it would lead me here. But, I am thrilled to be here and so very excited for the future!

If you are in the Central Florida area, please come celebrate the love of yarn with us today! I hope this will be the first of many Yarn Day festivals here in my hometown of Eustis, Florida.
